iBook availability, for the most part, continues to slip
this week. The Apple Store still lists a 5 to 10 day wait
for all models, and an increasing number of stores are listing
both 12.1" iBooks as out of stock. MacMall is out of
both G3/600's and is perilously low on the G3/500 as well.
MacConnection is out of the G3/500 and 12.1" G3/600.
It is a mixed bag at other stores as well.
Some new promotions came on line this week. The oft renewed
Lexmark Z23 rebate has finally been retired in favor of a
virtually identical Z25 rebate. MacMall introduced a couple
of interesting "video editing" bundles this week.
Core software includes a choice of Final Cut Pro or Adobe
Premier. MacMall also throws in other hardware and software
to round out the package, but the savings is either minimal
or, in some cases, nonexistent. The new bundles will add $855
to $1,800 to your tab, not exactly chump change. If you shop
around, you may even be able to buy the bundled items for
less! This is out main gripe against bundles that add to your
tab. It also seems a little odd to bundle pro applications
with a consumer laptop...
Special Promotions
Apple "Music
on. $100 off." Buy any Apple computer and a 5 or
10 GB iPod and receive a $100 rebate. This promotion, which
is set to end June 30th, can be used in conjunction with Apple's
other promotions.
Apple "Go
Wireless and Save" Buy any G4 PowerBook or iBook
and get $100 off Apple AirPort base station via mail in rebate.
Computer and base station must appear on the same invoice.
Promotion runs through the end of June.
Apple ""Cool
Pix. Hot deal." - Buy any PowerBook or iBook and
get $100 off (via mail-in rebate) Nikon's CoolPix
775 digital camera. Rebate offer runs through May 27th,
and it appears that it cannot be combined with the "Suite
Deal" promotion below.
Lexmark Z25
Rebate - Replacing the now expired Z23 promotion, the
Z25 promotion offers the same rebates, $30 off the Z25 printer
if bought on its own, or $50 if bought with a computer. Once
again, Dell computers don't qualify for the rebate... Runs
through June 29th.
