Hard Cider: When I Grow Up I Want To Be An Apple Store. Wait A Minute I Am Almost Grown Up! - Pictures From The Nearly Ready To Open Apple Store In Palo Alto

Things have really changed since our first report about the construction of the Apple Store in Palo Alto - home to Stanford University and Apple's visionary CEO, Steve Jobs. When we last visited the site it was just a boarded up shell of a building - like something destroyed during a riot. In actual fact the building that used to be located on the spot was a cooking equipment store that had a cooking school attached. Perhaps one of the novice cooks got carried away with an over enthusiastic flambe, because the cooking store burned down.

A week or so ago I drove by the location and it was all stylishly boarded up, and finishing brush strokes of dark black paint were being applied to the plywood. It reminded me of the scene in 2001 A Space Odyssey when the black obelisk appears one day in the midst of unenlightened apes sparking the beginning of civilization. By the time I got back to the area (some time later), with a digital camera in tow, they had painted the Apple logo on the front and added the web site addresses. Things are moving right along at a rapid pace, and the hardwood floor is all put down. Theoretically, Apple has set the Grand Opening as 10 days from now, on October 6th at 10:00AM (thank you Apple for choosing a decent hour). It looks like they may make this date, but it will be touch and go. For more information on the Palo Alto store visit Apple's Web Site

This roving reporter took his digital camera down to University Ave to check out the store and snapped the pictures below. I was closely observed by the security personnel Apple has hired to keep the overly curious away, and in fact was pursued by one of the burly men half way back to the car. Made us feel like Russian spies ...

A drive by shooting - Apple security personal would not let us get a shot of the insides through the front door.

And A Few Shots From Seybold SF

Waiting for the Apple Keynote to start

Jobs in da house. Jobs gives main Keynote speaker, Phil Schiller, an introduction. Originally he had planned to do this from Paris. Since the Apple Expo from Paris was cancelled, Jobs made a surprise personal appearance.

Because of the destruction in the east and a slowing economy, the Seybold conference was very poorly attended. Both exhibitors and attendees stayed away. Some of the conference visitors made their feelings known about this country's current War footing
