Hard Cider: Pictures From Inside The AppleStore ... The Original AppleStore - The Future Is Here Now!
Recent reports on the Web indicate that the new Apple stores, that will be appearing soon throughout the country, will be modeled on the Original Apple Store. This store has been up and running for many years and is located at 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino California, to the right of the entrance of Apple's corporate headquarters. So we thought we would send our roving reporter out there, to take a gander at the store and click some pictures so that those of you, who might not live a hop, skip and a jump from Cupertino, might have some idea of what we are all in for when Apple opens its nationwide boutiques.

We have read stories that Apple has hired from the Gap the person who was responsible for managing the Gap stores, to run the forthcoming AppleStores. This seems a good fit as the current store reminded our reporter, of a Gap store. It is clean, well lighted, uncluttered, attractive and spacious. This Store on the Apple campus was mainly built as a place where Apple employees could buy product (at a discount) and as a showpiece for the constant parade of visitors and dignitaries that visit the campus from all around the world. You cannot actually purchase computers in the store and walk out with them - It is just a place to show them off. There are several kiosks containing iMacs where you can log on to the AppleStore, and of course buy a Macintosh that way.

The Store is broken up into three sections. The central section has hardware & supplies on one side, and an extensive selection of software (for purchase) on the right. To the right of this section is the checkout area and the kiosks mentioned above. Earlier this used to be the Newton section. To the left of the entrance is the third section. This section takes up almost half of the store, and is filled with a great variety of T-shirts, jackets and other apparel sporting the Apple logo. In addition there are Apple mugs and other trinkets to bedazzle the natives.

We hope you enjoy these pictures, as perhaps a taste of what is to come. The AppleStore they are building in Palo Altos looks like it is going to be two story - so there may be some interesting variety between stores. Be sure to click on the scaled down pictures below. You will be rewarded with a much higher quality, larger photo that will give you much greater detail. The images should load in under 30 seconds using a 56K modem. You will also find some images of the new iBook which had just been placed on display.

The Original AppleStore In Cupertino
the dumbed down images below suck - you have to click on them to get the real deal...

The front entrance to the AppleStore

Looking down the front of the AppleStore: hardware and software straight ahead, apparel to the left and checkout to the right

Checkout and kiosks

Clothing galore

Hardware straight ahead

The software selection - lots of educational stuff and games

A T-shirt for every season and every size

Mugs and trinkets

We actually wanted a tan cap but couldn't find one

Looking towards the front of the store and the checkout area

Ah yes the iBook had just been placed on display - this is the box it comes in

The iBook itself - it really looks like a miniatureG4 PowerBook when opened

A little closer view - the thing is really small

The iBook up close and personal

iBook from the back - from this angle you can tell that it's not purely a T-Book knockoff
